Kashan is a city in central Iran, which has a impressive history of carpet weaving dating back to the 16th century. This is where the famous “Mohtasham” rugs were woven. Classic hand knotted rug patterns can range from fields of allover floral or with medallions to pictorial scenes. The traditional carpet color is red and blue, but more recently they have been woven in beige with grey-blue and olive tones. Kashan rugs are made mostly of wool with a foundation of cotton, however, you will find finer knotted pieces also in all silk.
